Top 5 Destinations in Australia

Are you thinking of visiting the land down under but don’t know where to start? Australia is the largest country in Oceania, with over 7.692 million km² of land to explore. Luckily for you, I have put together a list of the 5 top destinations that you must see during your stay in this incredible country.

Sydney

I know it must seem obvious, but Sydney is a destination that should be on everyone’s bucket list. Although most people confuse this city with the capital of Australia, instead of Canberra, they do have a point. Sydney is actually the capital of New South Wales, and the most popular city in Australia for its famous landmark: The Sydney Opera House. It is also recognised worldwide as the main surfing destination thanks to the iconic Bondi Beach. If you love the sun and the beach, there’s no better place to go!

Whitsunday Islands

Paradise on earth. This is how I would describe this incredible place. It is a truly wonderful creation of Mother Nature, an archipelago composed by stunning beaches near the coast of Queensland. The Whitsunday Islands are famous for their reputation of having one of the whitest sand beaches in Australia, so it’s definitely worth checking it out! If you have the opportunity to go, make sure you also visit the Great Barrier Reef, which is the world’s largest coral reef and most certainly the best place to practice scuba-diving or snorkelling.

Melbourne

Melbourne is a must for cool people, and I mean that in both senses of the word. If you listed this city as one of your stops during your Australian adventure - and you should - make sure you pack a warm jumper and raincoat because Melbourne is as cold and rainy as it gets, especially in winter. Nonetheless, you’ll find the friendliest people here, and you’ll love the vibrant ambience of its 19th-century architecture style, trendy urban features and awesome Art Museums & galleries. It’s the perfect opportunity for those passionate about music and culture, as the city is entirely surrounded by an artistic feel, especially on the streets of Downtown Melbourne, where you can find the emblematic graffiti walls - giving the real meaning of the expression “street art”. You can also find multiple cafés and restaurants with live music that won’t leave you indifferent, AND there’s a great coffee culture where, as some might say, you can find the best coffee in the world.

Perth

What most people don’t know is that Perth is indeed one of the most beautiful cities in Australia. If you are planning to add some history to your trip, this city cannot miss your top 5 list. Perth has a large maritime heritage, as it was founded and developed by European colonists and sailors in the 18th century, leaving an important legacy behind such as the Fremantle Port, a very popular attraction for tourists. What’s more, you can enjoy its beautiful beaches with a few advantages compared to other places in Australia: it’s always warm weather (yes, even in winter!), it’s not crowded and the sunrise is unbelievably pretty.

Uluru

Talking about pretty sunrises, Uluru would definitely be the winner if it were a contest. Famous for its massive sandstone monolith in the heart of the Northern Territory’s arid “Red Centre”, Uluru is also recognised for its magical sunrise and sunset views. It is frequently visited by tourists all over the world, who travel more than 450 km from Alice Springs, the nearest town, just to enjoy the amazing view of this also known Ayers Rock. Formed over 500 million years ago, it is a sacred landmark to Indigenous Australians, and it’s surrounded by miles of desert.
